I can't help comparing this to the film "Earth," which came from the book. I liked the book, but the film is one of my favorites.
I feel like the book lacks a depth that I thought should have been there. I read other reviews trying to figure out what it was that was missing, and maybe it is the telling of the story through a child's eyes. It was interesting because of it, but maybe her level of understanding also made it a bit shallow. It lacked the sensuality that can only be seen through adult eyes, which, besides the history lesson, was something I particularly enjoyed about the story. It was worth reading, but the book didn't earn a permanent place in my home, unlike the DVD.
